A rainy day does not have to ruin a portrait session. The potentially gloomy weather can create a very dramatic mood with gentle lighting, perfectly suited to this stylized shoot.
Melissa is a dedicated Cellist and we were honored to photograph her for her upcoming recital at the Lindenwood University Cultural Center. I know she will be amazing!

So many evenings pass us by. Some enjoyable, some dull, some full of dramatic choices that may ultimately be less important than we imagine. And then, there are the rare few that mark a complete change in your life.
Brian & Kim met through mutual friends, Mike & Ashley. Brian & Kim got along great in the setting of their mixed group of friends, but they were friends. Events took a turn after Kim & Brian were both asked to be in their friends’, Mike & Ashley, wedding. After the course of the day and the whole evening together, Brian & Kim danced a final slow dance. The song was just a muted backdrop to the growing realization that they had found something rare and special in each other. In one evening, things had changed.
How Brian Proposed:
Kim: “The night Brian proposed, he took me to my favorite restaurant Gallagher’s in Waterloo. It was half priced burger night, but he insisted we order steaks. Once we got home after dinner, he brought me a pumpkin beer (my favorite) and handed me a card. Inside was a very sweet note about how much he loves and cares about me. At the end of the note is said, “But I have an important question to ask you,” and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was beyond surprised and moved to tears. I could not wait to tell both my family as well as his!”

What to wear? Which location? What season?
A lot of planning goes into an engagement session, and many emails back & forth. And then, suddenly the day is upon us. Our couples usually show up at least slightly nervous, but excited! I could see both feelings represented in Erika & Matt as we met them in Forest Park. We don’t usually start an engagement session with a lot of “posed” photos since I think it seems to immediately put a Couple on the spot. Instead, we work to capture them more as they are in everyday life.
This turned out to be easy to do with Erika & Matt, they brought their doggie Macaroon for the first stage of our session. As they walked and played with Macaroon in the park, the moments seemed very candid and intimate.
Afterward, we set off for more stylized locations to match the vintage theme of their wedding, with romantic shared moments in a classically beautiful part of St. louis. I can’t wait to see all of their plans come together next year with their Wedding at The Chase Park Plaza.

(While I was taking the photo above, Dustin captured the photo below. This is why I LOVE him to pieces for being my business partner.)
How Matt Proposed:  At the beginning of 2013, Matt had decided that he was going to propose this year. He asked Erika’s parents over after finding the perfect ring. Then on June 21, at the St. Louis Butterfly House in Chesterfield the proposal took place. This had been a date spot for us when we first started dating in 2007. Matt had rented the back garden patio and had his sister drop Erika off on their way back from Kansas. He was playing Erika’s favorite Celine Dion song, “I’m Alive,” while waiting for her with flowers and THE RING! He got down on one knee and the rest is history! 🙂 One of the happiest moments of our lives.~*~*~*~

Kenny & Taryn

Ah, Kenny and Taryn, where to begin? From the first moment of their wedding day, Kenny’s smile was almost irrepressible. He and Taryn were one of the most collected calm and just plain content couples we have ever worked with. They were willing to try out some exciting photos that used the amazing fall colors and pastoral landscape.
And as Kenny and Taryn danced at their reception, along with Elijah and Iylie, those few moments were a vivid depiction of the tenderness and strength that is the foundation of this new family.
Best wishes to the Zapps.

Katie & Cody

St Louis Wedding Photography | For The Moment Photography
Katie & Cody have known each other since the tempestuous years of high school but glimmers of romance only developed years later.
Their paths continued to cross while attending the same college, but time, as it often does, simply passed. It was only after returning to their respective homes that a deceptively simple text message ignited the affection that is now undeniable.
We are really looking forward to Katie & Cody’s Hollywood themed wedding next year at The Westin in downtown St. Louis. Katie wanted to incorporate this theme into their engagement session and I think she did a wonderful job. I’m totally in love with the dresses she picked and I’m incredibly impressed with how patient and supportive Cody was during out extra long session.
How He Proposed:
“Katie’s step father, Dan, was diagnosed with terminal cancer in Oct of 2012. In December, with the help of family & friends, we put on a benefit 5k for him. When the race was over, we were all gathered in the community center & Katie was standing on a chair to announce the 50/50 winner. Cody came over to the table and said he had something to say to everyone. He proceeded to get down on one knee in front of all of our family, friends & the community. It was the perfect moment.”
We want to say thank you to Whitney Peuterbaugh for doing a fantastic job on Katie’s makeup! Be sure to like her Facebook page here!

Kayla & Jordan
Soulard & Forest Park Engagment Photos | St Louis Wedding Photographers
Jordan & Kayla, one of the sweetest couples I’ve met! They fit like two puzzle pieces . . . from a puzzle that only has two pieces . . . obviously, they just go together.
We are really looking forward to their wedding next summer at Neo On Locust.
How he propose:
Kayla : “Jordan knows that it’s very difficult to keep a secret from me. He gets so excited and winds up telling me the surprise before it happens, but not this time. Valentines Day was a perfect cover up. He told me we had dinner reservations at The Boat House in Forest Park. We were on our way there, when he mentioned that it would be romantic if we stopped in front of Art Hill and walked down in front of The Grand Basin. Â We walked down to the edge of the fountains and there were candles all lit up in a row. He got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. I said yes! He had my two best friends hiding in the bushes taking pictures of the whole thing. All of our family and friends were waiting for us at The Dubliner where we had our 1st date. It was the most romantic gesture I could have asked for!”
How did you know he was the one?
Kayla : ” We would stay up for hours talking and it would seem like no time had even passed. It was like we had known each other for years when we had only just met. I had never been treated so well in my life and I knew I never wanted to let that go. I had the “ah-ha” moment, the moment it all just clicks and makes sense. He truly is the love of my life.”

Pink Peonies, Bow Ties, & a Necklace From J. Crew, all crusted with Gold Sparkling Details…. I am forever in love with this wedding! (which may be why we accidentally matched the wedding.)
The “Getting ready” pictures were taken at the Hyatt, in downtown Saint Louis, with an amazing “First look” moment on the Hyatt veranda. We then took Bridal Party pictures at Union Station, trying to use period specific architecture and flare to tie into the Wedding theme. The day culminated in both Wedding Ceremony and Reception being held at the incomparable Thaxton.
We love hearing from each Bride & Groom just what their Wedding day was like. Enjoy a few excerpted comments from Carl and Danielle:
